Our Founder & Story
In 2013, Johanna Gober founded True ID out of a desire to develop a comprehensive reintegration and mentorship program for sex-trafficked and sexually exploited women – a desperately needed resource.
As a survivor of the sex industry, Johanna struggled with self-worth and spiritual, emotional, and practical challenges in learning to live a new way as she reintegrated back into the community.
Johanna attributes the transforming work in her life to God’s amazing grace shown through mentoring relationships who embraced and empowered her in knowing her true identity in Jesus Christ. Through these relationships, Johanna received opportunities that helped her take the necessary steps forward.
These experiences birthed a God-given stirring in Johanna’s heart after moving to Las Vegas in 2011, “Are you willing?” Unable to deny her calling, she embraced her commission, “Bloom where you are planted.”
Hinging on Johanna’s obedience to say Yes, she reached out to her Women’s Ministry Pastor putting into motion the blessing that is now True ID.
From that day forward, the Lord continues to bring Kingdom-workers who come alongside Johanna and help serve those affected by the sex industry, both trafficked and non-trafficked.
On May 13, 2014, True ID became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As of 2021, True ID has assisted in providing reintegration support to over 67 survivors rejoining society.
Johanna graduated with honors from Biola University, BOLD Program, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She has more than ten years of experience in behavioral therapy and over twenty years in church service and leadership for youth and women’s ministry.
Johanna is married to her husband of 19 years, Jed, and they share two wonderful children. Jed is her biggest fan and number one supporter. He is the rock of their family, an advocate of True ID from inception, and serves on the board of directors. Their family loves going on adventures to the mountains or beach and visiting family. The Gober family verse is Micah 6:8: “What does the Lord require of you? To seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
